South Dakota lost a Summit League men’s basketball game Wednesday while adding another women’s victory in a pair of road games.
South Dakota cut a 14-point, second-half deficit to one with eight minutes to go, but couldn’t get stops down the stretch in a 91-83 loss at Omaha Wednesday inside Baxter Arena.
The Coyotes (15-10, 6-4 Summit) were going for their first sweep of Omaha in 10 years after beating the Mavericks by 17 points in Vermillion back in late December. The loss stopped a two-game win streak while Omaha (12-11, 5-5) snapped a two-game skid.
Matt Mooney scored a game-high 22 points for South Dakota and Tyler Flack added 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Flack has totaled 40 points in two games back from an extended injury and fell one point shy of his career high Wednesday. The Coyotes shot 52 percent from the field, but couldn’t overcome 17 turnovers and a 39-28 deficit on the boards.
Freshman guard Ciara Duffy scored 14 points and senior center Abigail Fogg added 13 more as the South Dakota women stole a road win, 53-44, at Denver inside Magness Arena on Wednesday. The Coyotes play five of their final seven regular season games on the road.
It was the lowest combined score in a South Dakota game this season as the Coyotes (19-4, 8-2 Summit League) held the Pioneers (5-17, 2-7 Summit League) to 11 points per quarter.
