It was an offensive show at the South Dakota spring football game Saturday.

QuarterbackKevin Earl was 17 of 35 passing for 335 yards and four touchdowns while wide receiver Ben Kramer had three catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns as the USD offense topped the defense 48-21 during the Spring Showcase at the DakotaDome on Saturday.

Earl connected with Kramer for touchdown passes of 30 yards and 59 yards in the first half. He also found Sam Cooke and Nick Meyer for touchdown passes of 15 and 13 yards respectively. The Coyote offense scored all four touchdowns and tacked on a field goal during its last eight drives.

Outside of Kramer’s 120 yards, redshirt freshman Brandt Van Roekel hauled in three passes for 65 yards and Riley Donovan caught two passes for 56 yards. Meyer led USD receivers in receptions with four for 39 yards. Earl connected with nine different receivers in the game.

The defense shut down the offense early, picking off two passes and recovering a fumble during the first five drives of the game. Linebacker Zeke Lewis recorded the first interception by picking off Earl in the end zone on the second drive of the game. Defensive back Chris Tyler intercepted Earl two drives later on the defense’s 20 yard line, but fumbled at midfield to give the ball back to the offense.

The defense picked off Earl a third time when linebacker Devon O’Farrell caught a pass that bounced off running back Korey Kilgore at midfield.

On the ground, the defense stifled the run game, allowing 38 yards on 28 rushing attempts. Trevor Bouma led the offense in rushing with 27 yards on seven carries.
