USD Medical Students Find Their “Match”

Medical students at the University of South Dakota, Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Yankton joined those at 144 other schools nationwide on “Match Day” Friday to learn where they will spend their residencies.

After four years of learning, training and testing, medical students about to graduate are assigned residencies that help them focus on a medical specialty.

Mark Ridder found out he was going to University of Wisconsin-Marshfield to continue the study of internal medicine….

Ridder was raised in Sioux Falls and hopes to come back to South Dakota after he completes his residency…

Na Smith will head to Rochester, Minnesota to the Mayo Cinic for the Radiation Oncology program. Smith said the whole process of matching a residency was a lot of work, and took a year to complete…

Smith had a family to factor in to her choices for a residency, including the need to find a new school for her two kids….

Smith says she would like to return to Yankton if possible after her residency.
