South Dakota junior Tommy Vining fired a 9-under-par 204 to claim the South Dakota Men’s Amateur Championship held at the Brandon Country Club in Brandon, South Dakota.
He also won the tournament in 2015.
The Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native shot an opening round 5-under 66 on Friday and followed with a 1-over 72 on Saturday. In Sunday’s final round, Vining shot another 66, which included seven birdies to claim the victory by two strokes.
Vining entered the final round one shot behind Arron Lickteig, a senior at Wyoming. Vining put the pressure on Lickteig early in the final round, hitting five birdies over the front-nine and went on to finish with his five-under-par 66 as Lickteig tallied a 69.
In his sophomore campaign, Vining earned all-Summit League first team honors and shot a program-tying record of 13 rounds under-par. His season average of 73.45 per round average is a single-season best for the program.
