South Dakota men’s golf coach Nick Hovden has been named the Summit League Men’s Golf Coach of the Year, as announced by the league office Thursday.
Hovden collects his first accolade after leading the Coyotes to their first Summit League title and NCAA Division I Regional appearance. South Dakota fired a tournament-low round of 292 on the third day to eclipse the leaders and take the crown.
The Coyotes had a 299.77 team stroke average for the year and claimed four tournament titles. In addition to the Summit League Championships, the men were victorious at the Jackrabbit Fall Classic, Atchafalaya Intercollegiate and Bradley Invitational.
Hovden’s women’s team also won a title at the Creighton Classic.
In five years the helm of the program, Hovden has coached four all-Summit League golfers, two academic all-Summit League honorees and three America Sky all-academic honorees.
