South Dakota football coach Joe Glenn has announced the additions of quarterback Brian Woodward of Phoenix, Ariz., and defensive lineman Christian Brobst of Sioux City, Iowa, to the 2014 Coyote recruiting class. Both will be eligible to play starting in the fall.
Woodward, who attends Brophy College Prep, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the university. He was an all-state player and was named one of the top-50 players in the state by the Arizona Republic this past season. Despite a spiral fracture in his hand, he had 1,258 passing yards and 11 touchdowns last fall with 741 yards and 10 touchdowns coming over the final four games of the season.
Woodward is a four-time letter winner at Brophy, winning three in football and one in track and field.
Brobst, who has signed a scholarship with the university, helped Bishop Heelan High School to the Iowa Class 3A football title last season while leading the class in sacks (15) and earning first-team all-state honors from the Des Moines Register. Outside of sacks, he recorded 85 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries during his senior season.
Outside of football, Brobst placed third in Class 2A at 195 pounds during the Iowa State High School Wrestling Tournament in February. He finished the season with a 47-3 record and 44 pins. He also has played baseball and ran track at Bishop Heelan.
South Dakota’s 2014 recruiting class has 32 signees. The team is currently in the middle of spring practices.
