USCA Wants Senate Hearing on Cattle Market Volatility

The United States Cattlemen’s Association is asking Congress to investigate the current state of cattle market. USCA Executive Vice President Jess Peterson says following the largest loss of equity in the history of the U.S. cattle industry, they are requesting an in-depth review of the possible components contributing to the ongoing market volatility.

Peterson says they’ve requested the Senate Ag Committee convene a hearing on the cause of the recent market collapse and the current questionable market practices.

He says the Packers and Stockyards Act or GIPSA rule also needs funding for enforcement and modernization.

Peterson says his group looks forward to working with Congress to address these issues and to reestablish the confidence and transparency in the U.S. cattle market.
