The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association sent a letter recently to the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council regarding the enforcement of President Joe Biden’s Buy American Mandate executive order. USCA President Brooke Miller says the Product of the USA label needs to be enforced so that consumers know exactly what they’re getting.

He says they’re also asking Congress and the administration to support U.S. cattle producers by providing a pathway forward for defining what constitutes a U.S. beef product.

Miller says without having a mandatory labeling rule in place it’s difficult to ensure that consumers can know where the product they’re getting is coming from. He says one problem that needs correcting is to keep foreign beef from being repackaged and labeled as product of the USA.

Miller was encouraged when he heard Agriculture Secretary Nominee Tom Vilsack speaking at his Senate confirmation hearing that he’s willing to look at the possibility of reinstating mandatory country of origin labeling.
