The United States Cattlemen’s Association wants the USDA to make sure its coronavirus relief program purchases American meat for its food box donations. USCA President Brooke Miller says the USDA asked for feedback on coronavirus relief and making sure America’s farmers and ranchers benefit from the aid and that it doesn’t go to foreign entities.
He says there is a current loophole that’s allowing foreign meat get the advantage of USDA coronavirus relief.
Miller says to ensure American product is being used in USDA programs, it’s critical they source that from smaller and medium sized processors.
Miller says if the USDA were to purchase American beef from the cattle market it would help improve prices for domestic producers and also increase competition.
