The Center for Consumer Freedom says they’ve found some hidden carcinogen substances contained in alternative protein or fake meat products that may cause cancer. Immediate Past President of the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association and North Dakota Rancher Kenny Graner says because those alternative meat products have several different ingredients this finding is not surprising.

He says this type of finding means there needs to be a concerted push to pass the Real Meat Act so truthful labeling is required to protect consumers.

Graner says the beef industry itself needs to be proactive and keep informing consumers about the health benefits of real meat.

After the Center for Consumer Freedom found the presence of the carcinogen acrylamide in alternative protein products, California officials through their Proposition 65 put out warnings about those products.
