United States Cattlemen’s Association members want to see the beef checkoff strengthened and are opposing the Opportunities for Fairness In Farming Act. Cattlemen’s Lia Biondo says one of the problems with the OFF Act is that an anti-livestock group is supporting it.
She says the OFF Act isn’t the best way to reform the beef checkoff, even though changes are needed.
Biondo says the best way to make the beef checkoff stronger and work better for producers is for all the cattle groups to work together on changes. She says it’s time to get out of the courtrooms and into a conference room.
Biondo says it’s critical the cattle groups agree on checkoff changes before Congress is forced to consider a sweeping overhaul of all the nation’s commodity checkoffs.
