The United States Cattlemen’s Association is lauding the University of Tennessee’s Ag Policy Analysis Center for their recommendation urging the return of Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling. President Brooke Miller says that remains one of his group’s priority measures.

He says the proper way forward is reinstituting M-COOL rather than any type of voluntary program as the mandatory program is best for both producers and consumers.

Miller says retaliation over M-COOL could be avoided if it were passed as a new law rather than re-adding it to the old law.

Miller says the loss of mandatory country of origin labeling when it was repealed as been more costly for U.S. cattle producers than what any retaliation would have brought.
