US Wheat Associates Excited About Cuba Opening

U.S. Wheat officials say President Obama’s executive order easing trade restrictions with Cuba has great potential for growing the Hard Red Winter Wheat market. Steve Mercer with U.S. Wheat Associates says the President’s announcement should help the U.S. regain market share in Cuba over Canada and the European Union.
Mercer says their sister group, NAWG will work with the new Congress to get the trade embargo lifted. He says the President’s executive orders should help with trade right away.
Mercer says since the President’s announcement, E.U. officials are already worried about losing their share of the Cuban wheat market.
Cuba has not purchased U.S. wheat since 2011.
