The National Association of Conservation Districts, partnering with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, has awarded $1 million in grants to conservation districts including Iowa. NACD President Brent Van Dyke says it’s for urban agriculture conservation projects.
He says one of the recipients is Johnson County’s Soil and Water Conservation District in Iowa. which will implement conservation practices and drainage infrastructure.
Van Dyke says this urban agriculture conservation program is important to meet the needs of individuals far removed from farms and ranches. He says it also promotes a closer connection between ag conservation and consumers.
Van Dyke says the urban agriculture program helps support local food production, provides opportunities for education and stewardship and helps protect natural resources.
