First round play in the Northern Sun Conference men’s and women’s post season basketball tourneys brought several upsets, including the ousting of two number one seeds.

Bemidji State recorded both of the top seed shockers as the eighth seed topped Minnesota Mankato in the men’s division 66-56 and Concordia-St. Paul 73-70 in the women’s division.

The other biggest surprises came with Minnesota Crookston topping Augustana 87-72 in the men’s division and Wayne State besting Mary 54-52 in the women’s division.

Both University of Sioux Falls teams advanced to the weekend quarterfinals along with the Augustana women’s team and the Wayne State men’s squad.
