Upsets Mark GPAC Playoffs

The top seeded men’s team was upset on night one of the Great Plains Athletic Conference post season basketball tournament.

The top seed, Morningside, fell to Hastings. The Mustangs, as the number one seed have secured an automatic berth to the NAIA Men’s Division II National Tournament despite losing to the eighth seeded Hastings Broncos 84-80. Hastings will travel to fourth seed Concordia to take on the Bulldogs who picked up a 74-63 win over fifth seed Northwestern.

On the other side of the bracket it was Mount Marty who pulled the upset as the sixth seeded Lancers downed third seeded Dordt 75-74. Mount Marty will take on second seed Dakota Wesleyan who took care of business with a 90-75 victory over seventh seed Jamestown.

All of the top seeds picked up wins in the opening round of the Women’s Tournament. The closest game of the night was in Sioux City as Morningside needed overtime to down Northwestern.

The top seed and regular season champions Concordia took care of the eight seed Midland, cruising to a 95-46 win. The Bulldogs will take on Dordt in the semifinals. The fourth seeded Defenders moved on with a 75-55 victory over Dakota Wesleyan.

On the other side of the bracket second seed Hastings advanced with a 77-49 win over seventh seed Jamestown. The Broncos will take on third seed Morningside who edged out sixth seed Northwestern 90-87 in overtime.
