The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will house the new Drought Risk Management Research Center. It will be established at the National Drought Mitigation Center. The Center’s Mark Svoboda says this will help them better coordinate resources between state and federal agencies to provide communities, governments and businesses the best available drought research, data and information. All this will help improve drought response.

He says the cutting-edge mitigation techniques and long-term planning data for drought will benefit the region and nation. It will enhance drought prediction, warning systems and preparedness.

NOAA’s Sectoral Applications Research Program will support the new center with a three-year $2.4 million grant. The center will launch this summer.
