A new study released by the University of Nebraska at Lincoln shows several benefits from the State Agriculture Department’s Livestock Friendly County Designation program. The study looked at 21 counties declared livestock friendly between 2002 and 2012. One of the study authors, University of Nebraska- Lincoln Professor David Aiken says cattle operations fared the best from the designation.
He says the cattle operations likely fared better than pork operations partially due to the environmental push back experienced by swine operations.
Aiken says overall their study shows the livestock friendly program is working well and helping ag development in Nebraska.
The Livestock Friendly County Designation Program allows counties on a voluntary basis to ask for a designation from the State Agriculture Department declaring them receptive to new livestock developments.
