This week, University of Nebraska Lincoln Economists unveiled a new study looking at the impact of Nebraska’s Ethanol Industry from 2015 to 2017. Study co-author, Dr. Eric Thompson, economic professor and director of the Nebraska Bureau of Business Research says the measured several impacts.
He says as of 2017, the ethanol industry supported over 5,000 jobs in Nebraska and their overall output impact was over $4 billion dollars.
Thompson says despite challenging economic factors, ag production remains high.
Thompson says the study also showed a consistently positive impact on local basis (the difference between the local cash price and the futures price) from ethanol production. For example, a producer near an ethanol plant producing 220 bushels of corn per acre would receive an additional $11.44 per acre each year.
