A coalition of agricultural students at the University of Nebraska was successful in getting a proposal for Meatless Mondays voted down on campus. Student Senator Spencer Hartman says the idea for the adoption of Meatless Mondays originated with the Environmental Sustainability Committee as a way to cut greenhouse gases.

Hartman says when the Environmental Sustainability Committee proposed the Association of Students at UNL appropriate $250 to promote Meatless Mondays to students, that’s when agricultural groups got involved.

Hartman and several other students spoke out against the proposal, resulting in the student Senate voting it down with a clear majority.
