UNL Could Become National Leader in Bio-defense Education

Nebraska could take the lead as an educational site for students seeking careers in the bio-defense field.  Dr. Ken Bayles a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center who is teaming with the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico on this mission to deliver research solutions to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Bayles says UNL could become a national leader in this type of research…

Their goal is to provide educational opportunities for students from Nebraska and around the country.   The partnership will look at diagnosing and detecting infectious disease agents through the use of biosensors.  They can be used to detected biological and chemical warfare agents that include nerve gas and anthrax.
