A study by the University of Nebraska – Kearney shows the economic impact of tourism in central Nebraska during the annual Sandhill crane migration.  Bree Dority is the associate dean of the College of Business and Technology at UNK and says the cranes bring in millions of dollars to thirteen counties in the region.

Dority says it’s a huge economic boost that creates jobs.

The study shows $379,000 is generated each year in property, sales and lodging tax revenue.  There were 46,500 visitors in 2017 and they spent on average $93.37 each day while in central Nebraska viewing the cranes.
