University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds says the support the university receives from the state attracted him to the position.
Bounds served as Mississippi Commissioner of Higher Education and watched as Mississippi and other states slashed higher education budgets in wake of the great recession.

Bounds says the university can have a major impact on a wide range of issues.
But, Bounds says one issue stands out: agriculture.
In particular, how agriculture will be able to feed a growing world population with shrinking water resources.

Bounds says he wants the university to determine what issues it can excel in and concentrate in those areas.
