The Department of Defense is putting the University of Nebraska in charge of an $ 11-Million effort to create drugs that would help protect the military from the effects of radiation exposure.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln chemistry professor and project co-director, David Berkowitz, says such a drug would mean the military and civilians would have access to medication that would combat radiation damage…

Berkowitz says a team of researchers from UNL and the University of Nebraska Medical Center are working on the project

Berkowitz says that in addition to fulfilling the Department of Defense’s contract, the project also has the secondary goal of getting UNL and UNMC to cooperate more.
