A new University of Minnesota study sheds light on what law enforcement agencies are seeing in Colorado and Washington–where marijuana is legal. The study’s co-author Darin Erickson says as Minnesota considers making the move from a prohibition to a legalization state
Erickson surveyed 50 local enforcement agencies in Colorado and Washington in 2016 and 2017 and says he found that “enforcement is not a high priority for most places.” Based on his finding, Erickson recommends that states earmark tax money from retail marijuana sales to fund enforcement programs.
