University of Iowa Research on Hearing Loss & Dementia

Research at the University of Iowa on the use of cochlear implants to restore people’s hearing is continuing with a new grant from the National Institute Health. Doctor Bruce Gantz says one of the things they’ve found in their work is the loss hearing can have a big impact on those who suffer from dementia.

Gantz says they believe the work they are doing at Iowa Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center can help improve the lives of those with dementia.

Gantz says hearing loss is the third most common chronic disorder in people over the age of 65.
