U.S. Wheat Associates leaders are in Brazil this week working to solidify U.S. access to their market once the tariff free quota of 750,000 metric tons is opened. Wheat Associate’s Steve Mercer says the ground work for the U.S. competing for that market began earlier with officials at Wheat Associate’s South American offices.
He says the U.S. has a leg up over our competitors from Russia and other countries because of the quality of U.S. wheat as well as a shipping advantage.
Mercer says the U.S. will be a reliable supplier of what wheat Brazil is looking for.
There has been no date set yet for implementation of the quota that will cover wheat from all sources but a Brazilian official noted their government is working on the regulation.
