Fears of the global spread of African Swine Fever is rising as China last week and this week Monday reported new outbreaks of the disease in their country. Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says they’re continuing to monitor any movement or outbreaks of African Swine Fever and keeping a close eye on feed.
He says there are some steps that can be taken with feed to help prevent ASF.
On Monday, China reported a new case of African Swine Fever at a farm with nearly 20,000 pigs, the largest farm to report an outbreak. Juhnke says it’s hard to tell just how big the problem is in China.
Juhnke says health officials at both the federal and state level are working hard to prevent any occurrence of the disease in the U.S.
Juhnke says African Swine Fever is totally isolated to swine and there is no effect of it on the human population.
