United States pork exports passed the 6 billion dollar level for the fourth year in a row with 4.8 billion pounds of pork and pork variety meats exported last year. Pork Check Off Trade Committee chair Brian Zimmerman says strong global partnerships and rising global demand as well as the U.S. dollar level spurred growing revenue from exports.
Zimmerman who raises hogs near Beatrice,Nebraska says potential trade agreements on the horizon could mean a lot for future exports and continued revenue growth for the U.S. pork industry.
Zimmerman says recently China sold roughly seven million sows and that Asian nation could be another export opportunity in the future.
Zimmerman says the recent purchase by the Chinese of Smithfield Foods could also mean more U.S. pork heading toward China.
