The U.S. continues to press China to approve the MIR 162 event after trade disruptions earlier this year. The biotech event is not approved yet in the country and as a result China turned back shipments of both corn and DDGs containing the trait. Syngenta Agrisure Viptera Trait Lead Duane Martin says there is no scientific reason for China to red light the product.
He says the current lawsuits against Syngenta for releasing the event and the resulting trade disruptions are unfounded as China is such a small market for U.S. corn.
MIR 162 has been approved in other key export markets, but for now it’s primarily being channeled into livestock feed.
