The United States Cattlemen’s Association has gotten a response from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on their petition calling for truthful labeling of beef. USCA’s Lia Biondo says their concern is that foreign beef is being re-labeled as being a product of the United States.

She says while FSIS agreed with USCA that misleading of consumers is happening, they are going forward with a new rule proposal that would allow labels that are unsatisfactory.

Biondo says it’s critical cattle producers submit their comments when the rule making process begins.

Biondo says it’s imperative that the origin of beef be labeled accurately and is clearly described for consumers.
