United States Cattlemen’s Association leaders are asking the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association to clarify their lobbying efforts regarding the beef checkoff program. They want answers about the work done to insert language in the budget that would restrict Freedom of Information Act requests on the checkoff. USCA President Danni Beer says they want all beef industry groups involved on any requests regarding the beef checkoff.

She says by limiting FOIA requests it hampers the ability of cattle groups and producers to know more about the beef checkoff.

Beer says it’s important that any dealings with the beef checkoff are handled in a transparent manner.

Beer says her group wants to know why the Beef Checkoff Enhancement Working Group was not included in any conversations leading to the request for limiting FOIA on the checkoff.
