The United States Cattlemen’s Association has submitted a petition for rulemaking to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to establish accurate beef labeling requirements. USCA’s Director of Policy and Outreach Lia Biondo says her group is concerned about the negative impacts coming from laboratory grown meat or “fake meat”.

She says her group wants FSIS to define what real beef is.

Biondo says unless the “fake meat issue” is addressed it could hurt the beef industry.

Biondo says consumers depend upon the USDA’s FSIS to ensure that the products they purchase at the grocery store match their label descriptions.
