Wednesday, the United States Cattlemen’s Association filed a petition for rule making with the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to address Product of the USA and Made in the USA claims on U.S. beef. U.S. Cattlemen’s Lia Biondo says currently there’s no way for consumers to know that the beef they’re getting is USA made or produced.

She says their request follows what President Trump has been calling for with an America First Policy.

Biondo says they’re not trying to revive Mandatory COOL but make sure consumers can be assured what they’re buying is born, raised and slaughtered in the United States.

Biondo says there needs to be labeling that clearly outlines what Product of the USA and Made in the USA is as opposed to product that’s brought in from the outside the U.S. and relabeled as U.S. beef.
