The uncertainty regarding the United States’ future in various trade agreements continues to grow. President Trump’s threats of pulling out of the North American Free Trade Agreement and opening up the Korean Free Trade Agreement for review has America’s cattle producers concerned. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says their goal is to solidify U.S. trade deals.
He says there may be more certainty regarding trade once U.S. negotiators meet with South Korean officials January 5 to start reviewing the KORUS agreement.
Woodall says having a trade deal in place with South Korea is important not only for agriculture, but for national security.
Woodall says the U.S. is currently selling over $1 billion worth of beef to South Korea annually. So, any move to exit that trade pact would do a great deal of economic harm.
