A group of 50 Canadian farmers have passed a resolution calling for their government to reinstate the Canadian Wheat Board. A University of Saskatchewan study says Canadian growers have lost $6.5 million in the last two years without having the board’s help to provide price support. North Dakota Wheat Commission Chairman David Clough says he’s concerned about the impact on the U.S. wheat industry if the Canadian Wheat Board is reinstated.

Clough says the former Canadian Wheat Board never played by the rules and subsidized their growers at the expense of producers in other countries, including the United States.

Clough says low wheat prices are hurting all wheat farmers, not just those in Canada. It’s due to the current surplus of wheat in the U.S. and globally.
