Senate Finance Committee leaders told Canadian Ambassador Gary Doer, their support for a comprehensive Trans Pacific Partnership deal hinges on Canada being willing to expand market access for U.S. dairy exports. Committee member and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says Canada has been using restrictive tariff rate quotas on dairy imports.
Grassley says the Canadians also use non tariff trade barriers that need to be addressed.
Grassley says if Canada fails to come to the table on these barriers they should be left completely out of the TPP agreement.
TPP representatives are meeting in Hawaii today in what could be the final round of negotiations ahead of finalizing a trade pact.
