The U.S. Grains Council says Colombia’s recent imports of U.S. sorghum represent a renewed interest among buyers and a timely marketing opportunity for U.S. producers. Grains Council Chairman and Nebraska farmer Alan Tiemann attributes the recent uptick in exports to the Central American Free Trade agreement. He says the trade deal is starting to return great dividends for U.S. farmers.

Tiemann says the trade deal has also given the U.S. a leg up on competitors in the Colombian grain market.

Earlier this month, Colombia imported 23,000 metric tons or 95,500 bushels of sorghum, nearly filling their tariff rate quota.
