The U.S. government has reached an agreement with the government of Peru to remove barriers for U.S. beef exports that have been in effect since 2003. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Dr. Phil Reemtsma says the full opening of that market that opening is great news for the U.S. cattle industry.
He says the U.S. cattle industry can fill the needs of that growing market.
Reemtsma says hopefully the success the U.S. has had with these recent market openings will lead to approval of both the TPP and TTIP deals.
In 2015, the United States exported $25.4 million in beef and beef products to Peru. This week’s agreement removes the barriers called the export verification program and expands market access.
