U-S Pork Export Outlook

Pork exports have declined slightly during the last year, but they still show good numbers compared to the last five years.  So, what is expected with future pork export trends?  Dr. Steve Meyer with the Partners for Production Agriculture spoke at last week’s Iowa Pork Congress.  Meyer is an agricultural economist that consults with the National Pork Board, National Pork Producers Council, and with several pork organizations.  Meyer was asked if U-S pork exports will decline, rise, or remain flat?  China has been a good buyer of U-S pork, but since China is recovering from the African Swine Fever outbreak, they have pulled back on their U-S pork purchases.

Meyer offers some estimates as to how much pork exports may increase for this year.
