This week tariffs are set to drop on wheat imported into Japan from Australia, Canada and the European Union. That will leave U.S. wheat at a market disadvantage. National Association of Wheat Growers CEO Chandler Goule says without a trade agreement with Japan and with our competitors engaged in the new TPP, the U.S. is losing out to Canada, Australia and the E.U.
He says international market expansion is badly needed for America’s wheat growers.
Goule says with the U.S. exporting half of the wheat it grows, the Pacific Rim countries are an important destination for that crop.
Goule says NAWG is letting the administration know that a bilateral trade deal with Japan must be reached before the U.S. is totally out of that market.
