The House is expected to take up Trade Promotion Authority legislation sometime this week or next following their return from the holiday break. National Farmers Union leaders say they will continue their push to defeat the measure. Senior Vice President of programs, Chandler Goule, says TPA has led to several free trade deals that have hurt the economy.

Goule says his group would be in favor of amendments to a TPA bill, if it included trade adjustment assistance and currency manipulation, but doesn’t expect that to happen.

He says TPA has led to trade agreements that have left the U.S. with a $ 550 billion trade deficit and as well as a 3 percent drag on the Gross Domestic Product.
