United States chilled beef exports to southeast Asian customers have been a real success story this year. U.S. Meat Export Federation Economist Erin Borror says chilled beef exports have gone up in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, while competitor Australia has seen their exports going down in that region.
Borror says even though Taiwan is buying from Australia, the U.S. dominates that market holding 70 percent of the market share for chilled beef. She says part of the reason for the export success is due to programs initiated by USMEF.
She says the big export success in South Korea lies with COSTCO now offering U.S. chilled beef.
Borror says a recent Gallup survey showed South Korean’s intention of U.S. beef consumption has risen this year to 56-percent from 52-percent last year.
