Another U.S. Agricultural group is not happy with USDA’s announcement this week of the opening of the Brazil market to U.S. beef. That means the U.S. is now open to Brazilian beef as well. U.S. Cattlemen’s Association President and South Dakota producer Danni Beer says there are several health concerns with beef coming from Brazil that could put the U.S. cattle herd at risk.
She says while Brazilians consume a lot of meat, they also produce most of the beef they eat and don’t need to import product.
Beer says foot and mouth disease is a devastating disease and if it gets into the U.S., health officials aren’t prepared to deal with it.
Trade between the U.S. and Brazil is expected to resume within 90 days. Earlier R CALF USA expressed their opposition to the opening.
