The United States biodiesel industry scored several wins last week. First, members of the House including South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem re-introduced a bill to restore the biodiesel tax credit and make it a producer’s credit. Anne Steckel, vice president of federal affairs at the National Biodiesel Board says this is an important change that only allows U.S. biodiesel producers access to the $1 per gallon incentive.

She says the bill, which is exactly like the Senate’s, also provides a long-term tax credit program which gives the industry more certainty than the annual renewals.

The biodiesel industry also scored a victory as the International Trade Commission made a preliminary determination to proceed with a dumping investigation into biodiesel imports from Argentina and Indonesia. Steckel says they are alleging injury to biodiesel producers due to the flood of imports.

Steckel says the favorable decision is an important step for U.S. biodiesel producers. She says they look forward to the results of both the ITC and the Commerce Department’s investigations to gain relief for the industry.
