United States beef exports are projected to set a record for 2018. U.S. Meat Export Federation Chair-Elect Cevin Jones says that’s despite the headwinds of a higher dollar and tariff war.
He says the strong beef exports this year have come from growth in Korea and Taiwan, but Japan has continued to be the top beef export customer for the U.S. on a value basis.
Jones says there is still potential to expand U.S. beef exports to Japan with a bilateral trade agreement because U.S. beef currently has a 38.5-percent tariff on it.
He says a bilateral deal with the EU could also lead to a doubling of U.S. beef exports in that market.
