U.S. agricultural exports set a record in 2021 at $177 billion. USDA data shows that tops the 2020 total by 18 percent and eclipses the previous record set in 2014 by 14.6 percent. Moreover, U.S. ag exports logged 230.7 million metric tons of volume in 2021, another record.
U.S. dairy exports also hit a record $7.66 billion in 2021, outperforming the previous record of $7.08 billion achieved in 2014. Alan Bjerga with the National Milk Producers Federation says its exciting news.
He says the record was achieved from a cross section of dairy product sales.
And Bjerga says U.S. dairy exports were strong around the globe, but in particular southeast Asia.
What makes this even more impressive is the record came despite the supply chain and shipping disruptions that plagued agriculture in 2021 and accounted for more than $1.5 billion of lost sales for the dairy industry.
Bjerga says they continue to look for long-term solutions to supply chain challenges to help U.S. dairy exports reach greater heights in the months and years ahead.
