Tyson Foods has introduced its first ever venture into plant-based meat alternative products. The company also said they’ll be selling additional products that combine traditional meat blended with plant protein. South Dakota Stockgrowers Association President Gary Deering isn’t too concerned about potential competition to the beef industry from those products.
He says a bill passed in the state legislature for truth in labeling that will help consumers know what they’re getting when they purchase meat.
Deering says they intend to keep a close eye on what’s happening with plant based and fake meat products. He says they’ll also continue to promote U.S beef and talk about its advantages for consumers.
Tyson officials say their new product will be called Raised and Rooted and will be plant based nuggets that will be available to the general public later this summer offered by various national retailers.
