School boards in the Marion and Parker districts in southeast South Dakota have been actively discussing the possibility of consolidation. Proposals have gone back and forth and been before both boards.
Parker Superintendent Dr. Donavan DeBoer says there is no agreement yet…..
DeBoer says consolidation would offer more class opportunities to students in both districts….
DeBoer says while enrollment in the Parker district has been slowly rising, they don’t know how that will trend in the future….
One of the scenarios discussed by the boards would place the kindergarten through fifth grade and high school in Parker, with the middle school in Marion. Both boards would have to sign off on any agreement and alignment. The agreement could be in place in time for the start of school this fall.
