Two Killed in Separate Fatal Accidents

One person died in a two-vehicle crash that happened Monday morning east of Platte.

The name of the deceased, along with name of the other driver, are not being released pending notification of family members. They were the only people involved in the crash.

A 2007 Chevrolet Impala was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 44 when the driver lost control. The vehicle eventually went across the center line and into the path of a westbound 2008 Saturn Aura XR.

The female driver of the Impala, 87, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 70-year-old male driver of the second vehicle sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transported first to Platte and then to a Mitchell hospital.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office, Platte Police Department, Platte Fire Department and Platte Ambulance.

Names of the two drivers are not being released pending notification of family members. They were the only people involved in the crash.

A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling west on South Dakota Highway 42 when it drifted across the center line. The driver of an eastbound 1997 Ford F350 pickup made an evasive move to the right to avoid the other pickup, but the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the Silverado was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to a Mitchell hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. Whether either driver was wearing a seatbelt is under investigation.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the McCook County Sheriff’s Office, Bridgewater Fire Rescue, Bridgewater Ambulance, McCook County Fire Rescue and McCook County Ambulance.
